As Fall quickly approaches, you might hear more people discussing their plans to schedule laser treatments for hair removal or skin concerns. Here at Pearl Skin and Body Rejuvenation, we absolutely love laser season! We had a great chat with Dr. Degurse about why the end of the year is so popular for laser treatments and got answers to some common questions about the process and different laser devices.
1. Why are Fall/Winter considered laser seasons?
Since laser treatments increase your sensitivity to UV rays, less-sunny months are the perfect time to book an appointment so there is less risk of sun damage impacting your skin’s health as well as your results. SPF is important year-round, but if you spend a lot of time outdoors it is smart to pick a time when the sun isn’t out for as long!
2. What is a common myth about laser treatment?
Many people believe laser is a very painful procedure, but Dr. Degurse describes the sensation as short zaps and momentary pain or discomfort rather than prolonged pain. “As soon as the laser is delivered, you feel a little zap and then the pain is gone,” she shares.
3. How many treatments are needed?
For laser hair removal, six treatments are recommended for ideal results. To tackle hyperpigmentation, three are recommended.
4. What moisturizer is best to use after a laser treatment?
Dr. Degurse recommends a medical-grade moisturizer for post-treatment care, with PCA’s Silk Coat Balm as her personal favorite.
5. Is there an age requirement for laser?
“You don’t have to be a certain age to start laser treatments,” Dr. Degurse states. Teenagers who struggle with hyperpigmentation from acne scarring could benefit from laser treatments, but people generally start laser treatments closer to middle-age.
6. Can treatments be done on all skin tones?
Depending on the treatment, some candidates may encounter difficulties due to the laser targeting pigmentation in skin as well as hair, but researching and speaking with your doctor can help you choose the safest and most effective treatment for your skin tone.
7. What is the down time for laser treatments?
Dr. Degurse recommends a minimum of 48 hours of avoiding sunlight, and ideally suggests two weeks of low sun exposure to ensure your skin recovers without any additional risk.
8. What devices are used for laser treatments at Pearl Skin and Body Rejuvenation?
We have a variety of incredible devices here at Pearl, and during your free consultation with Dr. Degurse the two of you can come up with the best treatment plan to achieve the results you want. Check out our YouTube channel for a look at some of our laser devices!
